Heat Pump Database of the European Community

Cel

As a way to improve energy efficiency in buildings and in industry leading to a reduction in CO2 pollution, the heat pump technology has been extensively developped but the lack of appropriate information is a major obstacle for broader market penetration in European countries. However in E.F.T.A. countries highly developped information systems covering R&D activities, heat pump manufacturers, utilities and users resulted in increasing market shares of heat pumps. From this experience it is proposed to develop a European Database extending two existing databases in Germany and Italy on heat pump manufacturers and their products (heat pump types, technical data).

The objective is to develop and install a database for a comprehensive survey of the activities and products of European heat pump manufacturers, institutions involved in R&D projects as well as utilities promoting heat pump use. The delivered database will be user-friendly and available for PC-users with a user's manual.

The database will contain information on heat pump manufacturers and their products (heat pump types, technical data) as well as institutions carrying out heat pump R&D (priority areas, projects) and utilities (incentive programmes, special tariffs, demonstration plants).

The tasks are divided into four activities :
- general requirements of the database :
structure, retrieval, dBase compatible data storage, data exchange, legal aspects
- software programming carried out by the German and Italian partners; an English version will be made in addition to the german and italian versions.
- data compilation : concentrated on german, italian, dutch and scandinavian firms.
- data analysis : collected data will take into account criteria such as completeness and exactness. Gaps and weak points of the information gathering system will be identified and a comprehensive overview of the current situation of the heat pump technology will be assessed in the different countries.
