A new CD-ROM providing interactive training on all aspects of the European patent system has just been published. Developed jointly by the European Commission and the European Patent Office (EPO), the "European Patent Interactive Training Package" aims to give a sound understanding of the system.

The package is designed to be user-friendly and requires no special skills or training to use. It contains seven modules, developed using the latest multimedia techniques with both text and video sequences, to provide users with a key information on European patents. The modules address the following topics:

- Patents in general;
- European patent applications;
- Criteria for the grant of a European patent;
- European grant procedure;
- Oppositions and appeals;
- Infringements and licensing;
- Patents as a source of information.
