Vessel traffic management and information services
A new Website providing information on the EU-supported concerted action on vessel traffic management and information services (VTMIS) has recently been launched. The aim of this action is to address the definition of European user requirements for VTMIS, to coordinate projects which are developing tools to improve the performance and the role of VTS (vessel traffic services) operators, and to assess the integration and cost-effectiveness of value-added services in VTMIS. The Website provides a range of information on VTMIS, including the background and the emergence of the concept, and the definition used for the purposes of the initiative. Guidelines on VTMIS, a table of VTMIS services, as well as links to other documents compiled by the project are also provided.
