A new guide to implementing technology solutions for education agencies and institutions has recently been published by the National Centre for Education Statistics, USA. The book describes the process for getting the best possible technology solutions and the steps to be taken to identify technology needs, consider options, acquire the technology and implement a solution that will provide technological foundations for the future. The book is targeted at people with one of two roles: - Those who have been given the responsibility to set up computer and networking technology in an educational organisation; - Those who will be supervising the process of technology implementation. It contains information on hardware, software and networking, as well as budgetary and resource concerns. It does not however provide specific recommendations, but rather includes reference documents and other sources of information at the end of each chapter. The following sections are contained in the publication: - Knowing what to do; - Knowing what you need; - Knowing what you have; - Knowing what to get; - Knowing how to implement your solution; - Knowing how to train users; - Knowing how to support and maintain your technology solution.
