Earthquake Engineering
The achievements of European laboratories in earthquake engineering are featured in a new book published by the European Commission. "Earthquake Engineering" describes the work of a six-laboratory consortium which has had considerable success in developing common standards for simulation of earthquakes and testing of building. The consortium, which operates the largest and most advanced earthquake simulators in Europe, wants to foster collaboration in the field and to encourage young researchers to access their facilities for their research. It also aims to encourage the acceptance of the Eurocade8 standard as an international standard for seismic design. The consortium has been funded by the European Commission, DG XII, under the Large Scale Facilities heading of the Training and Mobility of Researchers Programme.
