116 Large Scale Facilities opened up to researchers under the TMR programme
"Large-Scale Facilities 1998", a book describing 116 major research facilities now widely accessible to European scientists thanks to the Training and Mobility of Researchers Programme run by DG XII has recently been published by the European Commission. The TMR's Large Scale Facilities activity provides funding for researchers to visit the facilities and is available to scientists from the EU and the states associated to the Fourth Framework programme - Iceland, Israel, Lichtenstein and Norway. More than 2000 researchers a year currently take advantage of the scheme which opens up Europe's top research facilities to a broader academic community. The book describes the facilities themselves, contact points for the Large Scale Facilities activity and the type of research and work carried out. It also summarises other TMR-funded activity at the institutes, including 24 transnational research projects and 10 concerted actions which encourage the pooling of information and resources. Project collaborators and partners are listed along with their success and impact to date is reported.
