Commission publishes pre-information on call for tender in computing
The European Commission has published some advanced information regarding an invitation to tender for installation services of computers and information processing. The tender, which is expected to be announced on the 15 February 1999, will be a general invitation to tender relating to the supply of an infrastructure (computer resources, software and technical assistance) for the demonstration and showcasing of digital content research in Europe. The call aims at providing the technical infrastructure for the Information Society Technologies Programme's Key Action III "Multimedia Content and Tools", on I*M Europe, and its associated databases as well as the maintenance of the infrastructure. The tender will comprise the following components and services: - Delivery of a complete, reliable, state-of-the-art and evolutionary infrastructure for the running of the different activities of the IST's Key Action III on I*M Europe, including associated databases, state-of-the-art services and tools. This infrastructure includes: -- Computer hardware; -- Operating systems and software; -- Network hardware and software; -- Security hardware and software; -- Back-up hardware and software; -- Measurements, tracing and statistics hardware and software; - Provision of reliable, fast, redundant and evolutionary Internet access; - Provision of maintenance and support services; - Delivery of the complete takeover and hand-over from the existing I*M Europe infrastructure; - 3-monthly delivery of analysis and recommendations for infrastructure upgrades and extensions in the frame of a continuous and scalable development; - Delivery of monthly reports addressing: -- The staff activities; -- The measurements and statistics of the offered quality of services (QoS); -- The security and back-up status; - 1,300,000 euro (for four years). The services will be required to be made available at a location, which allows close and frequent contact with the relevant staff of the Commission's service in Luxembourg.
