Advanced information regarding an invitation to tender for studies in various fields of European Union activity, has been announced in the Official Journal by the European Commission, Directorate-General XIII for Telecommunications, Information Market and Exploitation of Research.

During the course of 1999, DG XIII/A intends to launch open calls for tenders for studies in some or all of the following domains:

- Regulatory framework (for example issues related to universal service, leased lines, barriers to trade, take-up of advanced services, interconnection, tariff and costing principles, licensing, carrier preselection, number portability, access, billing and numbering);
- Applications of regulatory framework (for example implementation issues);
- Mobile and satellite communications (for example licensing issues);
- Internet-related issues;
- Postal services (for example strategic aspects, cost-accounting aspects, trade aspects);
- International regulatory aspects (for example developing country issues, Central and Eastern Europe country aspects, trade aspects).

The provisional date for initiating the award procedure is during April 1999.
