A study of the implementation of the urban wastewater treatment Directive in the EU Member States is being sought in an invitation to tender published by the European Commission, DG XI. The work involves an evaluation of the state of compliance on 31 December 1998.

The contract will cover:

- Information-gathering from the Member States on sensitive areas they have identified. Requesting information from Member States that have not answered the Commission's request to supply information and seeking supplementary information concerning areas that should have been identified as sensitive and other agglomerations with more than 150,000 p.e.;
- Validation and analysis of this data and checking of the Member States' state of compliance with the Directive's obligations;
- Based on this information, the preparation of a report, a directory of the sensitive areas, the relevant agglomerations and an atlas of maps, all on paper and in electronic form.
