Commission pushes for further measures to protect the Baltic marine environment
The Helsinki Convention should be amended to adopt certain measures for the protection of the marine environment of the Baltic Sea, says the European Commission. It has outlined amendments it would like to see made to the annexes of the Helsinki Convention in a proposal for a Council Decision on the matter, recently published in the Official Journal of the European Communities. The amendments concern the prevention of pollution from agriculture, discharge of sewage by certain ships, and mandatory discharge of all wastes to a port reception facility.
