ASTRON project calls for ideas
The ASTRON project aims to introduce innovative applications based on the synergy of satellite telecommunications, earth observation and navigation, and is seeking ideas to help it move towards its project implementation phase in 2000-02. Based on the results of the ASTRON pathfinder phase (1998) and communication with stakeholders, several major application areas have been identified. These include applications for saving resources, business, and transport and non-transport applications for global navigation satellite systems. ASTRON is now inviting organisations working in earth observation, navigation or telecommunications to contribute their ideas in order to supplement this information. These might include opinions on how to enhance synergies in the above areas or potential additional applications and problems. The information received will be evaluated together with ongoing internal work, and any external work required will be requested through independent invitations to tender. Organisations wishing to respond should send an outline of their interests and idea on a maximum of two typed pages using the following headings: - application area targeted; - outline of problem; - users and/or customers involved; - rationale for use of integrated space technologies; - envisaged benefits.
