A call for proposals to combat cancer within the framework for action in the field of public health has recently been published by the European Commission.

This is part of a five year Community Action plan to combat cancer (from 1996 to 2000) and the Commission will give priority to proposals whose plans fall within the scope of the work programme already set out for 2000.

The areas to be covered under the programme include data collection and research, information and health education, early detection, screening and training; quality control; and guarantees.
