Those with an interest in the gender distribution of workers in the sciences, and R&D might be attracted by a forthcoming call for tenders from the European Commission. The call will ask for studies on the gender dimension of the European Commission's Fifth RTD Framework Programme, and is expected to be launched in August or September 1999.

These studies should produce a gender impact assessment of FP5, which the Commission hopes will be useful for suggesting better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes.

Additionally, the Commission will also launch a call for tenders for coordination services for the gender impact studies.

This work is likely to begin after March 2000.
