Fourth Pirelli INTERNETional award
Up to 15,000 euro is up for grabs at the fourth Pirelli INTERNETional awards to be held in Rome in the spring of 2000. For the first time this competition, which is dedicated to the spread of scientific culture, is open to any Internet user anywhere in the world. In previous years the award has attracted a great deal of competition, and last year more than 400 entries comprising 18 billion bytes were submitted to the Pirelli server. The first prize was awarded to the German Max Planck research institute who presented a multimedia transposition of Galileo's notes on motion, currently held at Florence's National Central Library. Entries this year will be judged for originality, relevance to the theme, social and economic impact, scientific rigour, artistic level and international scope. An international jury coordinated by Umberto Colombo, former Italian Minister for Universities and Scientific Research, and including Nobel Prize winner for chemistry Ilya Prigogine, will evaluate the submissions. The best entry will receive 15,000 euro, the second 7,500 euro and the third 3,000 euro. The competition regulations are published on the Web, at: http://www.pirelliaward.com/(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie)
