Reach Out Toolkit – a guideline on how to reach your STEM education stakeholders efficiently

Press Release - Brussels, 14 November 2013: The European project DESIRE (Disseminating Educational Science, Innovation and Research in Europe) has developed and published the Reach Out Toolkit – a guideline on how to reach your STEM education stakeholders efficiently.

The DESIRE project (Disseminating Educational Science, Innovation and Research in Europe) was set up to formulate recommendations to make STEM educational research more accessible to its target audience, mainly teachers. From 2011 to 2013, a range of STEM professionals were consulted to identify the main challenges they face in accessing new ideas from STEM educational research, and the best ways to make research available to help develop innovative teaching. The Reach Out Toolkit is based on two years research carried out by the DESIRE partners: European Schoolnet together with, INDIRE (Istituto Nazionale di Documentazione per l'Innovazione e la Ricerca Educativa), Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Dansk Naturvidenskabsformidling and Ecsite (The European Network of Science Centres and Museums). The project has been funded under the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme (DG Education and Culture). The Reach Out Toolkit is intended to project managers and project coordinators running initiatives to improve learning and teaching of STEM in formal education (schools) and informal education (science centres, museums, fairs, events). It gives information on how to plan and implement dissemination and exploitation strategies. The Toolkit also provide recommendations on how to make a difference by adapting its behaviors when communicating and looking for results from STEM education projects. The recommendations included in the Toolkit are based on the results of a survey and several discussion events run with the main STEM education stakeholders: Project managers, policy-makers, teachers, science event’s organisers and professionals from science museums. The DESIRE project will reach its end on the 30 November 2013. During the month of November DESIRE is organising Discussion Events for its stakeholders. The events give participants the opportunity to express their opinion on the Reach Out Toolkit findings and recommendations. You can find out more about the events on the DESRE website.
