A new series of EU-US business partnering events are to be funded by the European Commission following work done in the framework of the Transatlantic Business Dialogue. The Commission is now looking for proposals from organisations interested in EU funding for holding such an event between September 2000 and December 2001. Two types of events will be supported, based on instruments already in place in the EU. The first, Interprise, consists of partnering events where SMEs are brought together with a view to developing contacts and potential partnerships, and the meeting organiser arranges meetings between selected SMEs on the basis of a catalogue distributed in advance. Interprise events should normally focus on one or two well-defined industrial sectors. The second type of event to be supported is the 'international buyers' exhibition' (IBEX), which brings together SMEs and larger companies looking to set up sub-contracting/supplier arrangements. Again the organiser is expected to arrange meetings between appropriately matched SMEs and large companies on the basis of information submitted by participants in advance. As with Interprise events, IBEXs are generally organised in distinct industrial fields. Events supported under this call for proposals should take place in the USA or in an EU Member State. At least three bodies are required for each proposal - one main organiser, from an EU Member State; and two partners, one from the EU and one from the USA. Additional partners may be included. Proposals may be funded up to 150,000 euro, or 50% of total costs. Further information and instructions for proposers may be obtained on written request, marked 'call for proposals', to: European Commission DG XXIII - Enterprise Policy, Distributive Trades, Tourism and Cooperatives Unit B.2 - Partenariat Secretariat Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 (G-1 1/007) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2951740
