Announcement: ACP-SRP calls for proposals

Brussels: The Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) has launched a new call for Research & Development to prepare the phase II of the ACP Sugar Research Programme (ACP-SRP).

The ACP-SRP, funded by the European Union through DEVCO/Europe Aid, is part of the drive to reduce poverty and increase growth and living standards in ACP countries. The ACP-SRP aims to provide solutions to the main challenges faced by the sugar industry in ACP countries by implementing research and innovation projects. This call for proposals is open to all organisations of the ACP Group of States and from the European Union involved in the scope of Research and Development of sugarcane. The projects intend to introduce innovations and new products in the commodity chain to enhance the competitiveness of the sugar cane sector in ACP countries. The ACP Group of States wishes to focus on the promotion of intra-ACP, ACP – EU and public/private partnerships. This call for proposals will take place in two distinct phases: • The submission of a concept note that will be evaluated by a Scientific Committee; and • The submission of the full project for projects whose concept notes will have been selected Applications must be sent to the following address: callforproposals.phase2@acp-srp.eu no later than 30 April 2014. In that same year, the implementation of the Lomé Convention marked the beginning of cooperation between Europe and the ACP Group of States. The ACP Group of States comprises of nearly 980 million inhabitants spread over 79 countries and 3 continents (48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, 16 Caribbean and 15 Pacific). ACP-SRP The ACP Sugar Research Programme, funded by the European Union through DEVCO/Europe Aid, is part of the drive to reduce poverty and increase growth and living standards in ACP countries. The Commission also funds some programmes from the EU’s general budget. Member States contribute to both the EDF and the general budget, through budgetary instruments - the Development Cooperation Instrument, the Instrument for Stability, the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights and the European Humanitarian Aid Instrument.
