EMEA celebrates 5 years' work
It's coming up to the fifth anniversary of the founding of the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA), and the Veterinary Medicines Unit has seized the opportunity of the publication of its latest newsletter to review the organisation's achievements. These include the systems for market authorisations, the centralised and mutual recognition authorisation mechanisms and industry's growing confidence in them. 'August 1999 saw a milestone reached in the saga of establishment of maximum residue limits, with the near completion of the enormous task of setting MRLs for those substances on the market prior to January 1992', the EMEA reports. The newsletter also focuses on other important developments which have occurred over the past year: - The CVMP report on antimicrobial resistance; - Availability of veterinary medicines; - The partnership with Central and Eastern European countries on regulatory matters with PERF and joint meetings with TAIEX; - Performance indicators in centralised systems.
