ITU digital TV standards expanded
An international standard for digital television in the home has recently been approved by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at a recent meeting in Geneva. The new interface standard entitled 'Home digital network interface specification' will make connecting a cable television feed into a videocassette recorder(VCR) and digital television set (DTV). It is available for both high definition TV (HDTV) and conventional sets worldwide. Extensions of the standard will later apply to PCs and other networked devices. The ITU is working on a new recommendation which it hopes will provide the basis for providing content owners with a recognised system to protect their work from possible signal theft.
