New radionuclides directory on CD-ROM
'Nuclides 2000' is a newly published CD-ROM containing an electronic chart of more than 2600 radionuclides, and was developed by the EU Joint Research Centre's Institute for Transuranium Elements. The aim of this publication is to provide ready access to quantitative information on the decay of nuclides and their daughters, for users in fields such as agriculture, medicine, industry or research. The decay data contained on the CD-ROM is based on the Joint Evaluated File (JEF) version 2.2. Nuclides 2000 contains a powerful navigational interface, allowing access through a periodic table and Segrè chart. A search facility also allows users to find nuclides with particular properties. Data for each nuclide is stored in individual data sheets, and may be edited, allowing users to add their own observations or comments, which are stored in a personal database. Examples of the data contained in Nuclides 2000 are activities, gamma dose rate, isotopic powers, and annual limits of intake.. In addition to the data accessible through the "Nuclide Explorer" search tool, there are also a series of articles on various aspects of radionuclides - from radiocarbon dating to supernovae. A set of links to related websites is also included, allowing users to obtain additional information. The CD-ROM runs on Windows 95, 98 and NT, and is designed to be user-friendly and will be valuable for both experts and non-experts alike. It is suitable for both professionals and students requiring information on the properties and applications of radionuclides.
