Evaluating proposals for coal research - prior information
The European Commission requires independent evaluators for proposals submitted in response to the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) Coal Research programme's annual calls for proposals. The information provided by the independent experts will be used to facilitate discussions with the technical evaluation groups and with the coal research committee. The services required are divided into the following four lots: - Lot 1: 'Mining engineering' This sector comprises activities related to mining operations, techniques of coal winning as well as mine infrastructure and management; - Lot 2: ' Coal preparation' comprising activities related to coal preparation and blending and coal handleability; - Lot 3: 'Coal conversion' comprising activities related to: improvement of coke quality, upgrading of coal to develop products adapted to specific market needs, increase of coke oven life, investigation of possible use of residual materials from coal, investigation of coke behaviour, control of emissions and liquid effluent in coke plants, metallurgic uses of coal; - Lot 4: 'Coal combustion and gasification' comprising activities related to: reliability, availability and thermal efficiency in advanced power generation, understanding and reduction of emissions in coal combustion and gasification processes, reduction in the cost of pollution control technology on coal combustion and gasification processes, and improved use of solid residues from coal combustion.
