Assessment and upgrading of Novi Han monitoring system - Prior information
The Environment-Directorate-General has published advanced warning of a forthcoming call for tenders for assessment and upgrading of the Novi Han monitoring system in Bulgaria. The recent Phare (a programme for Community economic aid to certain countries in Central and Eastern Europe) study on the Novi Han radioactive waste depository in Bulgaria provided an assessment of radiological safety at the site and the requirements for future operation. The study report stated that improvements to the management system would be necessary to guarantee radiological safety during future operation of the facility. The principal objective of the present project is to establish an environmental monitoring system that takes into account both Bulgarian legal requirements and European standards, as well as the current practice and specific conditions at Novi Han. This must be achievable using readily available equipment capable of fulfilling the determined measurement requirements. The result should be an upgraded system acceptable by European standards and capable of satisfying current and possible future facility requirements.
