Phare multi-beneficiary programme on statistical cooperation
The European Commission's Statistical Office, Eurostat, will shortly publish a call for tenders for statistical services related to the Phare multi-beneficiary programme on statistical cooperation. This programme is targeted to improve the provision of official statistics relating to the Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs). The Commission will therefore be looking for contractors to assist in improving the production, collection and dissemination of statistics comparable with Community methods in certain key areas, which have been identified as pre-accession priorities. This work should also aim to improve the CEECs' ability to programme and plan their activities to help them achieve predetermined Community standards in the area of statistics. The call will be divided into a number of separate Lots, which will also cover technical assistance activities to transfer know-how about the statistical requirements of membership and improve their statistical capacity. The main activities will consist of seconding trainees to Eurostat or National Statistical Offices of the Member States, participation in seminars or working groups, translation of methodological manuals, publications and training. The total budget available for this programme is 15 million euro.
