Environment DG looks into environmental data system
The European Commission's Environment Directorate-General is expected to launch tender proceedings for a service contract for the creation of an optimised environmental data system on 5 April 2000. The computerised environmental data management system will cover information relating to the water sector to make it easier for Member States to report timely, accurate information about water quality and EU development and progress in the water sector. Initially, five Member States will be covered by the system, which will be required to display data in map form using geographical information systems provided by the Commission and databases and Internet communications technology.
