The European Commission is calling for tenders to set up a computerised environmental data management system for information relating to the water sector. This should be in a form that will make it easier for Member States to report timely, accurate information to the EU.

It should also communicate such information in a motivating manner, and properly convey information about water quality and EU development and progress in the water sector.

Initially five Member States will be covered by the system, which using databases and Internet communications technology, will display data in map form using GIS (satellite) signature systems provided by the Commission.
