As the result of the establishment of the European Research Area (ERA), and with the aim of improving information exchanges on research and technological development systems in the Member States, the Commission wishes to conduct a study on the setting up of an integrated information vector on research in Europe.

The study comprises the identification of all the relevant information sources so that a detailed overall picture of research and technological development policies in the Member States can be obtained. It also requires that an information system can be defined that will enable these sources to be exploited in an integrated manner.
