EU Scientific steering committee to investigate recent BSE claims
The European Union's scientific steering committee will investigate British scientists' recent claims that BSE can be passed between species without showing any effect on the infected animals. The revelation that BSE or 'mad cow disease' can jump the species barrier has been played down to some extent in the UK, although some scientists are calling for spot-checks on apparently healthy farm animals, such as chickens, pigs and sheep.
