The Joint Research Centre's Global Vegetation monitoring unit (GVM) is calling for tenders for a two year project to include:

- the collection, archiving and analysis of spatial data (maps, inventories, aerial photographs, etc.) produced by the field projects funded by DG DEV or the European development fund;

- the development of a specific interface for DG DEV and SCR services (including three EU delegations in Africa);

- the strengthening of the conservation and rational use of the ECOsystèmes Forestiers d'Afrique Centrale (ECOFAC) programme's capacities in terms of spatial information management.

The present notice refers to the provision, to the GVM unit and on the Ispra site, of advanced technical support in specialised geographical information systems, running under variants of the Unix operating system or equivalent, PCs running under Windows NT or equivalent, including Internet-based solutions, as well as a range of applications including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics programmes etc.

The supporting staff will participate in the data collection, in the development of the interface and in the training of decision-makers within Europe and Africa. The GVM unit of the Space Applications Institute of the JRC will supervise the work, which will be implemented on the site.
