EUMETSAT welcomes research Commissioner
EUMETSAT, the European organisation for the exploitation of meteorological satellites, welcomed Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin to its offices in Darmstadt, Germany, this October, to build on current links and increase understanding between the two organisations. The visit coincided with a meeting of the EUMETSAT policy advisory committee, a group of senior representatives from EUMETSAT's member states. EUMETSAT Director, Dr Tillmann Mohr, briefed the Commissioner on the organisation's current and future programmes and accompanied him on a tour of the satellite control and processing centre housed in the headquarter's building. EUMETSAT hoped to increase Mr Busquin's awareness of its activities in space meteorology and communicate its wish to participate with the Commission and the European Space Agency in the development of a European Space Strategy in the context of a European Research Area as proposed by the Commissioner. EUMETSAT is a pan-European intergovernmental organisation specifically devoted to operational meteorological satellites.
