Brussels focuses on research
Roger-Gerard Schwartzenberg, the French research minister who is presiding over the Research council on November 16 in Brussels, will begin the day by signing an accord between the European Union and the Russian federation on science and technology cooperation. Philippe Busquin, European Commissioner for Research will also be attendance and will be joined Erkki Liikanen Commissioner for Enterprise and the information society for the Research council, which will be followed immediately after by an extraordinary meeting of the European space agency's (ESA) ministerial council. Other than the three main areas on the Council's agenda (being activities concerning the realisation of the European research area, the legal future of ITER and a European space strategy), other items to be discussed include the continuation of AlphaGalileo, coordination of AIDS treatment in Europe, and a working document on the relationship between science and society. o-ord
