Sir Arnold Wolfendale, President of the European Physical Society (EPS), has made a controversial appeal for the introduction of compensatory £1 million for every European scientist lost in the 'brain drain' to the USA. The proposition was made in front of senior figures from The European Commission as well as top scientists at an event to launch the production of a new television programme 'Inspired by Nature'. The programme was produced as part of the European Week of Science and Technology's 'Learning from Nature' project. Copies of the programme, have been distributed across all of Europe, and as far a field as Turkey, Israel and the Russian Federation. The programme deals with five scientific areas: neural networks, vibrations in the Earth, using nature's radioactivity, music and learning from animals.
