Ghent researchers develop a new method to clone mice
Researchers at Ghent university recently announced a new simplified method to clone mice, resulting in live offspring. The research is being described as an important step in research for applications in human medicine. 'This is the first report on cloning of an adult mammalian animal in Belgium and using a self-developed purely mechanical method for nuclear transfer,' report the researchers. The research aims to develop a feasible and reliable method to clone somatic cells as a stepping stone to future biological studies and, in particular, the production of embryonic stem cells.
