The fostering entrepreneurship element of the conclusions of the Stockholm summit provides a great impetus to the European Commission's work in innovation, according to European Commissioner for Enterprise and information society, Erkki Liikanen The simplification of regulation, clarification of state aid and exploitation of the internal market all provide a boost to providing a favourable environment for entrepreneurs in Europe and will reduce the amount of red tape that they face. This will be particularly necessary in exploiting frontier technologies such as biotechnology. The Stockholm conclusions says national action plans, the charter for small enterprises, micro credits, exchanges of best practices and benchmarking enterprise policy are all key elements in fostering entrepreneurship. Regulation should be introduced after consultation, be regulated and should help in the reduction of red tape, the summit concluded.
