New service to promote marine ecosystems-related research activities
CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, is offering a new site dedicated to the key action for 'Sustainable marine ecosystems', available on the Energy, environment and sustainable development (EESD) web service. The site offers a comprehensive picture of supported activities and direct access to many innovative solutions developed through completed or on-going research projects under the Fifth Framework programme as well as previous programmes. Over 120 projects can be consulted covering for example research on underwater environment, tools for pollution detection, satellite-based ocean forecasting, climate impact on fish stocks and more. All those products, services, tools and technologies are presented with descriptions and contact details to ease potential transfer. In addition, the site offers links to reference documents on legislation in force and in preparation (climate change, biodiversity, marine safety) as well as a guide on setting up a web site for a funded project. A list of contacts within the European Commission is also provided. The site will prove useful for innovation actors interested in taking up new approaches to improve knowledge of marine processes, facilitate the development of safe and economic exploitation technologies, forecast environmental constraints and protect biodiversity, and more marine-related exploitable research results.
