The European Environment Agency (EEA) is seeking expertise to support various transport-related tasks and projects in the implementation of its work programmes for 2002 - 2004. The agency, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, is seeking expertise to work on priorities in the current and upcoming EEA work programmes, taking into account expertise currently available in the EEA and in its EIONET network, particularly European Topic Centres. The contract would also involve co-operation with Eurostat, the body responsible for providing most statistics in the transport and environmental development sectors. Tasks will include: - supporting further development of the transport and environment reporting mechanism (TERM); - contributing to transport-related chapters in main EEA reports, in particular the environmental Signals series, the Kiev report and the 2004 state of the environment report; - providing data, methodological and assessment support to the agency on transport and the environment, including scenario development, policy effectiveness analyses and hotspot analyses; - conducting specific studies on the impact and effectiveness of environmental and transport policy instruments and measures, and reporting these in focus reports; - supporting networking with European experts, organisations and authorities in the field of transport. Following the Cardiff European Council Summit, the EEA is turning its attention to monitoring the progress of the integration of environmental concerns into transport policy, and to assessing the effectiveness of related policy instruments. EEA work on the transport sector and its interaction with the environment requires access to a wide range of expertise. This particularly includes expertise on the integrated assessment of pressures and impacts engendered by the sector, transport environment policy integration, transport economy, pricing, taxation, demand management, logistics, technology, links with spatial development and other sectors, and travel behaviour. Expertise will also be required regarding wider sustainability concerns including transport-related socio-economic and health issues. For further information, please contact: Ms Ann Dom The European Environment Agency Kongens Nytorv 6 DK-1050 Copenhagen K Fax: +45-33-36 71 51
