The Education and Culture DG of the European Commission has issued a prior information notice for a public service contract for the production of studies linked to the eLearning initiative. On 28 March 2001, the European Commission adopted the action plan 'eLearning, designing tomorrow's education,' which forms part of the overall eEurope action plan. This initiative is intended to mobilise the education and cultural sectors, as well as Europe's economic and social players, into speeding up the rate at which education and training systems are being adapted to the knowledge-based society and the digital culture. The contract involves carrying out analysis, evaluation, comparative, feasibility or follow-up studies on themes from those areas the eLearning action plan has defined as being intervention areas (COM (2001) 172final - 28.3.2001). In particular these studies will look at the competitive nature of the European educational multimedia sectors and at eLearning's resources and the impact it has in the vocational training fields and/or on cross-sectoral issues in the context of life-long learning. The planned contract will be divided into several lots. The total contract value for all the lots added together will be 400,00 to 600,000 euro. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General Education and Culture (Unit C4) Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels Tel: +32-2-2956346 Fax: +32-2-2966992 Telex: COMEU B21877 Telegraph: COMEUR Bruxelles
