Nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials and new production processes and devices
The European Commission has published a call for proposals in the area of nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials and new production processes and devices under the Sixth Framework Programme's thematic priority of the same name. This is one of the areas covered by the 'Integrating and strengthening the European Research Area' specific programme. The areas covered by this call are: a) Nanotechnologies and nanosciences - Long-term interdisciplinary research into understanding phenomena, mastering processes and developing research tools (area 3.4.1.1 of the work programme) - Nano-biotechnologies (area 3.4.1.2 of the work programme) - Nano-metre-scale engineering techniques to create materials and components (area 3.4.1.3) - Development of handling and control devices and instruments (area 3.4.1.4 of the work programme) - Applications in areas such as health and medical systems, chemistry, energy, optics, food and the environment (area 3.4.1.5 of the work programme) b) Knowledge-based Multifunctional Materials - Development of fundamental knowledge (area 3.4.2.1 of the work programme) - Technologies associated with the production, transformation and processing of knowledge-based multifunctional materials, and biomaterials (area 3.4.2.2 of the work programme) - Engineering support for materials development (area 3.4.2.3 of the work programme) c) New Production Processes and Devices - Development of new processes and flexible, intelligent manufacturing systems (area 3.4.3.1 of the work programme) - Systems research and hazard control (area 3.4.3.2 of the work programme) - Optimising the life-cycle of industrial systems, products and services (area 3.4.3.3 of the work programme). d) Integration of nanotechnologies, new materials, and new production technologies for improved security and quality of life (area 3.4.4 of the work programme). In specifying the instruments to be used in these areas, the call requests the use of integrated projects, networks of excellence, specific targeted research projects, coordinated actions, and specific support actions.
