CORDIS launches Netherlands Council Presidency Research and Innovation service
CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, has launched a new online service covering the research and innovation activities led by the Dutch Presidency of the European Union (1 July - 31 December 2004). Developed jointly by the Dutch authorities responsible for research and innovation and the EU's online information service CORDIS, the new service offers in-depth coverage of the latest news, including interviews and coverage of the three meetings of the Competitiveness Council, scheduled for 1 to 3 July (informal), 24 September and 25 to 26 November 2004. There is also a focus on the Dutch Presidency's research and innovation priorities, such as the promotion of excellence in basic research, the supply, quality and mobility of knowledge workers, European cooperation in the field of research infrastructures, the position of small and medium sized companies and the interaction between science and industry. An extensive events section highlights the most important conferences and meetings designed to give impetus to the building of a Europe-wide research and innovation area. The Dutch Presidency will also host discussions concerning preparations for the Seventh Framework Programme (due to begin in 2007) and work towards an agreement on the Community patent, all of which will be reported on the new CORDIS service. The service puts Dutch research and innovation players in the spotlight, providing statistics, case studies and contacts, as well as exploitable technologies from Netherlands-based participants in EU research programmes. Users can also access a comprehensive directory (including a clickable map), providing details of the Innovation Relay Centre (IRC) network's activities in the Netherlands. The new Dutch Presidency Research and Innovation Information Service on CORDIS will be useful not only for researchers and policy makers, but also for small companies seeking understanding and opportunities from the emerging internal market of knowledge and new technologies. It replaces the Netherlands entry in the CORDIS National Services on Research and Innovation, which covers all EU Member States with sections on Candidate and Associated Countries.
