Janez Potocnik happy with EU research posting
Both Janez Potocnik and the Slovenian government, Mr Potocnik's former employer, have declared themselves happy with Mr Potocnik's appointment as future EU Research Commissioner. Mr Potocnik has said that the task ahead of him - of making the most out of Europe's huge research potential - is a real challenge. He also regards research as one of the most important contributors to achieving the Lisbon objectives of making Europe the world's most competitive economy by 2010. Slovenia is putting a lot of emphasis on the Lisbon Agenda. Not only has Mr Potocnik hailed it as 'one of the most important challenges facing the European Union in the next five years', but the Slovenian government has also praised measures proposed by the Commission aimed at implementing the Lisbon Agenda. A statement from the Slovenian government on the Commission's financial perspectives proposal asserts: 'Slovenia supports a number of measures proposed by the Commission that enable more efficient pursuing of goals on the EU level. This is particularly the case in the implementation of the Lisbon Agenda.'
