CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, has launched a new Regional Service for Franche-Comté in South-East France, offering an introduction/portal to its regional research and innovation activities. The service includes an overview of the geography and economy of the region, which is primarily industrial. 6,400 industrial enterprises account for 27 per cent of employment, compared with 17 per cent for France as a whole. The regional policy and strategy for research and innovation is also explained. Information on the region's research infrastructures is also included. The three major research organisations of Franche-Comté - the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), the University of Franche-Comté (UFC), and the National College for Engineering and Microtechnology (ENSMM) - also participate in networks, or 'technology poles', in eleven thematic areas such as micro- and nanotechnology, medicine, advanced manufacturing and ICT. As well as policy-level information, practical support for technology transfer and financing services for the commercial exploitation of new technology is available through the contacts listed for innovation services. Further information and contacts for research and innovation in Franche-Comté are available through the Links section. The service is available in English and French, and is part of the CORDIS Regional gateway, which now covers 31 European regions.
