Report on introduced species in European coastal waters
The European Commission, in the framework of the Environment programme, DG XII, has published a report on the international workshop on "Introduced species in European coastal waters" which took place in Monaco on 2-3 March 1993. The report, with scientific articles in English and French, illustrates a spectacular increase in the introduction of accidental species in European coastal waters in the last 20 years. Numerous examples, taken from various compartments of the biota (algae and invertebrates in particular), are provided; they illustrate the fragmentary nature of existing knowledge on this issue, as well as its complex and broad implications in the technical, economic and legal domains.
