Institute for Systems Engineering and Informatics: Annual Report 1994
The Institute for Systems Engineering and Informatics (ISEI) has published its annual report for 1994. The ISEI is one of the eight institutes which constitute the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). Its mission is to be the Communities' "central and independent centre of excellence in the field of complex systems engineering, focusing on the safety and standards aspects of pan-European human and environmental systems issues". The report reviews ISEI's contribution to the Community's Third Framework Programme (1990-1994), in particular, through the following specific research programmes: - Working environment/accident prevention; - Measuring and testing; - Environment/remote sensing; - Environment/industrial hazards; - Fission reactor safety; - Fission safeguards; - Controlled thermonuclear fusion; - Human capital and mobility. It also presents exploratory research carried out in the areas of: - Advanced neural network techniques; - Analysis of local optical correlation decay; - numerical stereophotogrammetry; - Advance visualization of dynamic data; - Safety study of high-velocity transport in off-normal conditions; - Safety features improvement of energy storage in superconducting windings.
