Discontinuation of CORDIS Free Phone Service
For the past six years CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, has been participating in a pan-European free phone service provided for ECHO, the European Commission Host Organization. Thanks to this service, users throughout Europe have been able to contact the CORDIS Help Desk, free of charge, for user support. "Freephone" numbers existed for the following countries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. Although the increasingly extensive use of this service has been observed with pleasure by CORDIS as an indicator of the growing interest in our service, this success has had its downside. Use of the Free Phone Service has now grown to such an extent that the INNOVATION programme can, regrettably, no longer support its continuation. The service has, therefore, been withdrawn since 1 January 1996. The CORDIS Help Desk will, however, naturally continue to operate as normal every weekday from 0900 to 1800, and users are encouraged to keep in touch by phone, fax or e-mail.
