MEDIA programme supports projects aimed at promoting the European audiovisual sector

The European Commission, DG X, has selected three projects aimed at improving promotion and market access for movies and audiovisual programmes proposed by European independent producers and distributors. These projects were selected following the call for proposals under the MEDIA programme to promote the development and distribution of European audiovisual works, launched on 27 January 1996 (OJ No C 23 of 27.1.1996). The three projects are: - "Cartoons on the Bay '96", a festival and market for animated programmes, which took place in Amalfi, Italy, on 15-18 April 1996; - A MEDIA promotional stand at the International Film Market, in parallel with the Cannes International Film Festival on 9-20 May 1996. The stand will present the works of some 30 European independent production and distribution companies, and is organized by The Marketplace, a Dutch-based operator selected by the Commission; - An umbrella project grouping national promotional organizations for independent producers from five European countries. This project, which will be coordinated by the Austrian Film Commission, will also be undertaken at the International Film Market in Cannes.
