Data communications via non-geostationary satellite constellations
The European Commission, DG XIII, has launched a call to tender for a study on data communications via non-geostationary satellite constellations. In recent years, a large number of non-geostationary satellite systems have been proposed, most of them with the purpose of providing personal voice services. These spacecraft, however, are capable of providing a wide variety of services to other users. These developments raise a number of questions, in part related to the constellation of satellites and other technical aspects, as well as to the potential market for such services in Europe. The study should include an overall assessment of non-geostationary satellite systems for data communications and potential services. The study should be completed within six months. Requests for tender documents, and completed tenders, should be sent to: European Commission DG XIII - Telecommunications, information market and exploitation of research Ms. Alison Birkett Directorate A 200 rue de la Loi (BU31 3/58) B-1049 Brussels Tel. +32-2-2968342/2968209; Fax +32-2-2968393
