Environmental policy in Europe - Industry, competition and the policy process
The results of research conducted under the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of environment and climate has been published in a book entitled "Environmental policy in Europe - Industry, competition and the policy process". The book examines the role of various concerned parties, primarily interest groups, in the framing and enactment of Community environmental policy. The policy-making process is seen as one in which these groups have considerable influence in shaping policy. Following general analysis of the European Community's environmental policy-making framework, and legal and institutional background, the book examines a number of case studies in European environmental policy-making. Specific areas covered include: the energy sector; waste disposal; specific waste regulation, such as car recycling; and the Environmental Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The book also includes a chapter outlining the economics of environmental regulation, particularly in respect of "eco-taxes".
