420 new Marie Curie Fellowships awarded
The European Commission has approved the award of 420 Marie Curie Fellowships to European scientists under the specific programme in the field of Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR). The 420 Marie Curie Fellowships awarded were selected from around 2,500 applications, and will receive total Community funding of ECU 36 million. The call for proposals was launched on 15 March 1996 (OJ No C 75 of 15.3.1996 p. 17) with a deadline for submission of applications of 17 June 1996. The Community funding will allow these Marie Curie Fellows - young European scientists - to conduct research projects in laboratories throughout Europe. Examples of projects to be carried out by Marie Curie Fellows include: giving verbal commands to personal computers; research into plants in arid regions; identification of a replacement for Rhodium, used in car exhaust catalysts. The next deadline for submission of applications for Marie Curie Fellowships is 16 December 1996, following the call launched on 17 September 1996 (OJ No S 180 of 17.9.1996 p. 33).
