In October 1995, an international workshop on "Radiation risk, risk perception and social constructions" was convened in Oslo, Norway. The workshop was co-organized by the Norwegian and Swedish radiation protection authorities and by the European Commission. The proceedings of this workshop, containing nearly all the abstracts presented during the event, has now been published.

The aim of the workshop was to bring together scientists from different disciplines working on risk research, in particular radiation risk research, with a view to stimulating research activities in this field. The proceedings cover the following main areas:

- Risk in modern society: challenges and problems;
- Risk perception and social constructions;
- Communication and information.
