BARMINT enriches technology melting-pot

Technological advancements over the last few years have indicated that integrating various fields of technological and scientific endeavours is a highly lucrative and a self-stimulating industry. In other words, combining technologies produces further technology.

The BARMINT project has illustrated that combining various technologies produces various hybrid technologies. Microsystems (where mechanical elements have been combined with electronic and optic technologies) have produced a myriad of additional results. The project revealed developmental means for achieving inter-disciplinary compatibility between technologies. For example, they developed a means to provide a robot with a sense of “sight” using electrostatically driven mircomirrors and laser-scanning technology. Another example of combining different disciplines resulted in a means to administer to people suffering from hypertension a consistent level of drugs. The BARMINT project is far more active than simple ingenuity. Overall, it seeks to develop design methodologies primarily concerning silicon-based microsystems in monolithic and multi-chip conditioning. In order to predict future technology integration procedures it strives to answer the need for a global top-down design platform, by solving compatibility problems between various technologies and by designing heterogeneous systems that would smoothly amalgamate such technologies as analog and digital interfaces of dissimilar nature such as sensors, actuators and power supply. By combining these technological factors BARMINT aims to inaugurate a greater overall integrative process by which the benefits from various branches of technology can be reaped.
