ECU 13 million for urban renewal in The Netherlands
A total of ECU 13 million has been awarded to the cities of Rotterdam and Utrecht under the URBAN Community Initiative for the regeneration of urban areas. The aid, which will come from the EU's Structural Funds, is intended to help tackle unemployment, strengthen entrepreneurship and improve the general quality of life of the inhabitants. It will be targeted at the area of "Delfshaven" in Rotterdam and the neighbourhood of the "Kanaalstraat" in Utrecht. Some 120 new jobs will be created in "Delfshaven", while 450 additional jobs will be created in the "Kanaalstraat" area. The total investment triggered by the EU-aid will amount to almost ECU 23.5 million in Rotterdam and almost ECU 26 million in Utrecht.
